Combine Rifle
Object Name:
Combine_Rifle
Sprite Name:
combine_rifleCombined Rifle is a gun that appears in Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon.
Effects
- Reloading alternates between two different firing modes.
- The first firing mode is a rapid-fire rifle.
- The second firing mode is a bouncing, piercing energy ball that disintegrates enemies it kills.
- Firing an energy ball consumes 10 ammo.
- Disintegrating an enemy will prevent certain on-death effects from triggering. For instance, Shotgun Kin will not burst into bullets and Blobulonians will not subdivide when disintegrated.
Other Appearances
- This gun appears in the animated release trailer for the Advanced Gungeons & Draguns Update.
Unused and Cut Content
Unused - With The Fat Line, if an enemy is killed by the Combined Rifle's energy ball, any bullets that the enemy had fired will slow down significantly. Additionally, the energy ball will release a burst of The Fat Line's shots upon dissipating.
Unused: Gunship Sinker - If the player has RC Rocket, it causes an unknown effect.
- This synergy is a reference to Half-Life 2, where the main protagonist, Gordon Freeman, uses a Resistance RPG to take down the combine gunship in one of the scenes, which also has the ability to fire rockets that can be controlled by the player's cursor, similar to RC Rocket.
- Prior to being officially added to the game, the Combined Rifle was called the High-Energy Rifle, with the pickup quote "Combined Fire". This version of the weapon had a different Ammonomicon entry, which read as follows;
Alternates between firing pulse blasts and an extremely powerful ball of dark energy. Alien technology, co-opted by the Hegemony of Man during the Ten Days' War, though never officially saw combat.
Notes
- The Combined Rifle is a reference to the Overwatch Standard Issue Pulse Rifle, also known as the AR2, from Half-Life 2.
- The name is a direct reference to the Combine from Half-Life 2.
- The pickup line, "Halve lives", is also a reference to the name of the game Half-Life.
- "Planet 17" mentioned in this gun's Ammonomicon entry is a reference to City 17, the primary setting of Half-Life 2.
- The "Ten Days' War" mentioned in the unused Ammonomicon entry of this gun is a reference to the Seven Hour War that occurred in the Half-Life universe prior to the events of Half-Life 2.
- The entry for the Combined Rifle in the Physical Ammonomicon has a small doodle of a stylised Headcrab from the Half-Life franchise.
