Crumbot

EMP-R0R is accompanied by a smaller robot that serves no obvious purpose in the scene. It does not speak, or move, or act in any way throughout the duration of the past with the exception of entering low power mode with all the other robots upon The Last Humans defeat. It is labelled as crumbot in its sprites, while its Unity GameObject is called pet. The name of this robots idle animation is EMP_pet_idle.

Whether this crumbot pet was originally intended to serve a greater function in the scene, or if it was always intended to be solely decorative is unknown. The design of the crumbot appears to be based on the Sentinel machines from the Matrix franchise.

This bot has assets for an unused 'laugh' animation.

Notes

  • EMP-R0R's appearance, namely his large singular red eye, are a reference to HAL 9000, a fictional computer intelligence famous for its appearance in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
  • An unconnected jack plug can be seen on the ground next to EMP-R0R, connected to a purple orb. This may be a reference to the Futurama episode Hell Is Other Robots, in which robots are shown plugging themselves into a plasma globe/hookah pipe device in order to achieve an electrical high in an act referred to as 'jacking on'.
  • All of EMP-R0R's dialogue is triggered by proximity or events. Despite this, EMP-R0R has an unused interactible component. Using a modified game to access the upper area of the arena where EMP-R0R sits allows the player to interact with him, which triggers the dialogue he would normally say upon The Last Humans defeat- but has no other effect.
  • EMP-R0R is the only character in Enter the Gungeon to use the mainframe audio tag.
