List of Minor Characters
This page is dedicated to various characters who play only extremely minor roles in Enter the Gungeon, Exit the Gungeon, or Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead. These characters are usually only mentioned, and are never interacted with directly.
Commander Iron
Commander Iron is The Detective's superior officer, as shown in the opening cinematic of Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead. He directly gives The Detective the order to seek out Super Space Turtle, enter The Gungeon, and rescue The President. He appears to be human, wearing sunglasses and a bomber jacket.
Notes
- Commander Iron's appearance is a reference to the Secret Service Agent in the opening of Bad Dudes Vs. DragonNinja, who similarly challenges the protagonists to rescue the President from Ninjas.
Mentioned Characters
Two-Shot Erias
Two-Shot Erias was a famous female Gungeoneer at some point in the past, known for her insistence on drinking her preferred alcohol before entering into a gunfight- claiming it made her twice as effective. Her claims were not taken seriously at the time. At some point, she entered the Gungeon wielding her fiery
Phoenix sidearm, and did not emerge, presumably dying in its depths.
Double Vision - "The favored brew of Two-Shot Erias. During her time in the Gungeon, she claimed that drinking before a gunfight would double her effectiveness in combat, but for obvious reasons was not taken too seriously. Perhaps there was some truth in her tales. "
Phoenix - "Famously wielded by Two-Shot Erias on her final Gungeon attempt."- The function of Double Vision, and by extension Two-Shot Erias' preferred gunfighting technique, are a reference to a scene in the 1993 film Tombstone. In the scene, a drunk Doc Holliday pulls out a second gun to shoot both his foe- and his double-vision double.
Alistair the Thunderbolt
Alistair, nicknamed 'The Thunderbolt', was a famous Captain in the Void Core before its dissolution. He seems to have had an affinity for electrical weaponry, making electrified ammunition his signature. Despite this, he also made use of heavy weapons such as a handheld retrofit design of a ship-to-ship combat energy cannon. Following the disbanding of the Void Core, Alistair travelled to The Gungeon.
Alistair is known to have made two attempts at the Gungeon, with the final one ultimately concluding in his permanent death. Before his second descent, he famously quipped "Lightning won't strike here again.". In a cruel twist, his permanent demise proved him correct.
This statement appears indicative of a level of egotism from Alistair that may have been responsible for his death. A note in a secret room can be discovered next to a human skeleton, reading "These walls don't stand a chance against me! Blanks? Who needs 'em? -Thunderbolt". This suggests that, in his disregard for Blanks and the rules of the Gungeon, Alistair became trapped in a secret room and perished.
The item description of the unused item
ThunderBolt suggests that it may contain the soul of "A famous gungeoneer", clearly implied to be Alistair. If this unused item description is canon, Alistair's soul may still be trapped within The Gungeon.
Shock Rounds - "The signature weapon of Alistair, the Thunderbolt. Upon his second descent into the Gungeon, the Thunderbolt famously remarked, "Lightning won't strike here again." He wasn't wrong."
Void Core Assault Rifle - "Before the Void Core was disbanded by the Hegemony of Man, they were renowned throughout the sector for their feats on and off the battlefield. Following their dissolution, the famed Void Core captain known as the Thunderbolt made his way to the Gungeon. "
Void Core Cannon - "Traditionally used by the Void Core for ship-to-ship combat, the VCC weapon fires an accelerating ball of plasma that delivers a devestating punch. This hand-held model is a retrofit design made specifically for the Thunderbolt."
ThunderBolt (Unused) - "Said to contain the soul of a famous Gungeoneer."
Ring of Lightning Resistance (Unused) - "A ring originally worn by Alistair, the Thunderbolt. The gemstone set in the golden band is cracked down the middle."- The
Alistair's Ladder Synergy takes Alistairs name. - Alistair's name is likely a reference to Alastor, a demon in the form of a lightning sword that appears in Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe.
Emmitt Calx
Emmitt Calx was a famous gunsmith and big-game hunter at some point in the past, responsible for the creation of several items found within the Gungeon. His fate is unknown, but it is implied that he may have been killed by the snake wound around the
Rattler. Calx's creations all involve some element of animal hunting, animal training, capture, or control.
Bait Launcher - "This esoteric weapon was devised by Emmitt Calx during one of his famous big game expeditions"
Rattler - "The Rattler was one of Emmitt Calx's worst, and last, ideas."
El Tigre (Unused) - "Emmitt Calx was renowned for his hunting prowess and his creative guncraft."
Monster Ball (Unused) - "According to local legend, Emmitt Calx threw one of these at a Beholster. It didn't work. However, it did force the beast to blink, which allowed Calx to escape."
The Cultists Mother
Several item descriptions mention the Mother of the enigmatic child of the Gungeon, The Cultist. While description of her is sparing, her willingness to regularly bake fresh cookies for her child casts her as a caring figure.
Friendship Cookie - "Baked fresh every morning by Mom! It's to die for! Or, just maybe, to live for. "
Extremely Minor Mentions
- Gunther's Former Owner - The sentient weapon
Gunther mentions a former owner in the dialogue line "My previous owner cleared that room faster.". Whether this former owner is supposed to be another lore character, a different player character on another run, or a completely unique character is unknown. It should be noted that this line can play on the first run Gunther is encountered, and that it can also play on runs where Gunther is encountered by the same Gungeoneer both times in a row. - One Of The First Gundead - The
Prime Primer is the remains of one of the first Gundead to ever walk the Gungeon- likely a Bullet Kin. This Gundead was either present for the Great Bullets fall, or awoke sometime after, as its remains still resonate with the Bullets power. - 'One Poor Soul' - A nameless individual whose personal agony was so great that it echoed with the corpses of the recently deceased. Their pain is testified in the
Melted Rock, which resonates with corpses to cause them to explode. Both the character description and item effect are a reference to the character Melting in the game Nuclear Throne. - Lucky Gungeoneer - A nameless female Gungeoneer known for her luck, and her wearing of the experimental
Fortune's Favor. While her luck and technology gave her some advantage and extended her life, it could not save her from The Gungeon. She is implied to be deceased. This Gungeoneer, her supernatural luck, and her bullet deflecting technology are all a reference to the character Fortune in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
