Money, also known as Casings, Shells, Coins, Slugs, or Rounds (and usually represented by the symbol Money.png) is a type of pickup in Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon, where it serves as the primary currency within runs. Money does not have one single official or canon name,[1] so this article will refer to it as money or Money.png.

There are three main types of Money.png;

Money.png Copper Casings Worth a single Money.png.
Money 5.png Silver Casings Worth 5 Money.png.
Golden Shell.png Gold Casings Worth 50 Money.png.

Money can be used for a variety of purposes within The Gungeon, as many different NPCs are eager to get their hands on it.

  • Synergrace can be paid Money.png to summon a synergy chest.
  • The Gunsling King requests a small wager of Money.png to take part in his challenges, however he will return the Money.png should the player return victorious.

  • The Vampire allows the player to sell Half Heart.png for their exact purchase price on the current floor.

    • Brown chests spawned upon room clear, in secret rooms, or in mini-reward rooms can sometimes give 5 Money.png instead of an item or gun.
    • Any Brown chest can rarely give 50 Money.png in addition to an item or gun, as well as several pickups.
  • Brother Alberns truth chest can sometimes give 5 Money.png.
  • Extra 1 Money.png, 5 Money.png, or (rarely) 50 Money.png pickups have a chance to spawn upon room clear.
  • A large variety of decorative breakable objects have a 0.1% chance to drop a Money.png when broken.

Unused and Cut Content

  • In Pre-Alpha versions of Enter the Gungeon, money took the form of traditional coins rather than empty bullet casings.[2]

Notes

  • Money that drops on the ground will move towards the player to be collected, so long as the player is not in combat.
    • Money pickups that fall into pits will be automatically collected by the player.
  • If the player is in a spirit form from Gun Soul.png Gun Soul, enemies will not drop any Money.png. This effect persists until the player reclaims their soul.
    • In co-op mode, enemies will only stop dropping money so long as the player under the effect of Gun Soul is not also a co-op ghost.
  • Taking damage with the Loot Bag.png Loot Bag equipped will drop 15-30% of the players currently held Money.png, up to a max of 120 Money.png. These dropped Money.png will not move towards the player to auto-collect, and will disappear after six seconds on the ground.

  1. "Over the course of development they had about 200 names, and the art changed a handful of times. We like that they look like casings but we didn't want to use a word related to bullets because we thought that it might be confused by a new player for ammo. That is why whenever a character talks about it, a picture shows up instead of a word. This allowed us to never come up with a real name. I call them coins, but shells, casings, slugs, rounds, space bucks, woolongs, double dollars, and money are all equally acceptable. I hope this clears things up, but it shouldn't. Cheers!
