The Past

Killing the Past is the primary goal of the Gungeoneers in Enter the Gungeon. Accessed via using the Gun That Can Kill The Past in conjunction with the Bullet That Can Kill The Past, the exact setting and events of the past vary depending on the Gungeoneer being played. All pasts, with the exception of The Gunslingers past, remove the players items and replace them with a set loadout.

• Hegemony Space, the setting of the Pilots past.
• Nightclub 'Confession', the setting of Convicts past.
• Blacksword Manor, the setting of the Hunters past.
• Emperor's Arena, the setting of the Robots past.
• Gungeon Proper, the setting of the Bullets past.
• The Breach, the setting of the Cultists past.
• Bullet Hell, the setting of the Gunslingers past.

Notes

• The Paradox does not have a past to kill, and no corresponding past level.
• Military Training, Enraging Photo, and Galactic Medal of Valor can be carried over into the past of all characters except The Pilot.
  • While this is now considered intended behaviour, older developer comments suggest this was initially a bug. Brent Sodman has suggested that this interaction is thematically appropriate because these items are new to The Gungeon, and have not been 'tainted by it' yet, allowing them to leave.
• Surplus Armor and Blanks can be carried over to The Past of most characters except The Pilot. This is the result of a developer oversight, but has not been patched.
