Synergy Chests are a special type of Chest in Enter the Gungeon. When opened they will roll a chance, either turning red or staying turqoise, and dropping a gun or item. Unlike most chests, items and guns dropped by a synergy chest can be of any quality tier.

If blue, they will drop an item or gun that completes a synergy.
If red, they will drop a random item or gun. The dropped item or gun completing a synergy is possible, but not guaranteed.

Location

Once unlocked, Synergy Chests have a roughly 5% chance to appear in reward rooms past the Keep of the Lead Lord.

A synergy chest will always spawn after defeating the Old King.

Notes

Synergy Chests are unlocked (In the sense of them becoming able to spawn) by freeing the NPC Synergrace from a cell within The Gungeon.
Synergy Chests found naturally in reward rooms are always fused, and will explode on a short delay. Synergy Chests spawned by Synergrace or the Old King are not subject to this.
Synergy chests cannot be Mimics, even if the player is holding the Mimic Tooth Necklace.
Possible Bug Synergy Chests do not have a special icon on the Map, instead re-using the icon of a regular Green Chest.

Combinations

Synergy Chests in Revival Form do not behave any differently to regular revival chests.
Synergy Chests can also be Glitched Chests. Glitched Synergy Chests will not pay out with an item, and behave identically to every other type of Glitched Chest.
It is possible (albeit extremely unlikely) that a Synergy Chest may also become a Rainbow Chest. These 'Synergy Rainbow Chests' appear identical to normal Synergy Chests, and have no identifying markings until they are opened. When a Synergy Rainbow Chest is opened, it will give 8 items/guns like a rainbow chest. If the Synergy Chest succeeds its synergy roll, all 8 items will complete a synergy.
