Witches

Squintie, Beakie, and Hunchie, known collectively as the Three Witches are NPCs that appear in Enter the Gungeon. They can be found solely in NPC Secret Rooms throughout the Gungeon if the player has played the current save file for more than 4 hours, and has visited the Gungeon Proper more than 5 times.

Function

When spoken to, the Witches will allow the player to toss their currently held gun into their bubbling cauldron. After tossing a gun into the pot, it will spit out another random gun in exchange, and give the player 2 Curse. The Witches will only allow the player to use their cauldron once per encounter.

The new gun will either be the same quality or one quality tier higher than the given gun. Unlike many NPCs, the Witches function is unchanged in Rainbow Mode.

Notes

• The Witches may be a reference to the Weird Sisters, a trio of witches who appear in the famous play MacBeth, by William Shakespeare.
• A gun and a skull can sometimes be seen floating to the surface of the witches cauldron.
• Hunchies talking animation is called hunchie_laugh internally, while Squinties talking animation is known as squintie_screech.
• The room name of the Witches secret room is WhichRoomIsThis.
