Cog of Battle is a passive item that appears in Enter the Gungeon.
Effects
- When reloading, pressing the fire or reload buttons when the indicator passes a certain mark on the reload bar will instantly reload the weapon. The mark on the reload bar is set to be at 2/3 of the length of the reload bar/reload time.
- This effectively decreases the reload time.
- This effect also increases the damage of the next magazine by 75% and also increases the accuracy of the next magazine.
- Missing the mark will lengthen the reload time.
- Switching to another gun after succeeding an active reload will remove the bonus.
Synergies ETG
Chest High is the Best High - If the player also has Mourning Star, damage is increased by 25% and the Macho Brace effect is activated after flipping a table. This version of the Macho Brace effect is different to the actual item's, as it increases damage by 100% for a brief time rather than Macho Brace's 30%.
- This effect is triggered at the same time as and stacks with that of Table Tech Rage, increasing the damage even further.
Ruby Carbine - If the player also has Hegemony Carbine, its projectiles will burn enemies and bounce off walls.
Item Interactions
Klobbe - After succeeding an active reload, the Klobbes damage and knockback are multiplied by 10, and the gun gains perfect accuracy for a portion of the next magazine. The amount of the next magazine affected by the bonus depends on how many bullets were reloaded using the active reload. Active reloading a fully empty magazine gives the entirety of the next magazine the bonus.
- This effect persists when the player switches away from, and back to the Klobbe.
Blasphemy - Blasphemy must double-tap reload in order to activate an actual reload bar and trigger Cog of Battle. However because Blasphemy never needs to reload, once an active reload has been hit, Blasphemy can keep the damage bonus permanently until swapping to a different gun.
Rad Gun - The active reload effects of the cog are combined with those of the Rad Gun.
Notes
- Prior to the Supply Drop Update, Cog of Battle was a
item.
- All active reload effects (including those of the Cog of Battle) are disabled while the
Gun Queue challenge modifier is active.
- The Cog of Battle's name and active reload mechanic are a reference to the Gears of War series.
- Hitting an active reload with the fire button instead of the reload button will both succeed the reload and fire the gun immediately after. This can be very useful for guns with 1 bullet magazines.
- During early stages of Enter the Gungeons development, every gun in the game natively had an active reload mechanic to reward skilled players. This was eventually removed and turned into the item effect of the Cog of Battle to make the game easier on new and learning players.[1]

Eventually we decided to put this feature onto an item because we found that players really had enough things to worry about and learn when they started playing. Always having to care about the active reload was a bit too much- but it worked well for advanced play." - Dave Crooks in Q&A: The guns and dungeons of Enter the Gungeon (Game Developer) (19/04/2016)
