Shooting Style
All guns fit into five different shooting styles which control how they behave.

Automatic
Automatically fires bullets at a constant rate while the fire key is held.
Semiautomaticweapon demo.gif
Semiautomatic
Fires bullets at a constant rate while the fire key is held.
Tapping the fire key however allows the gun to fire faster.

Charged
Requires the fire button to be held for a time and released to fire a single volley.
Some charged guns have multiple tiers of charge that change the projectile depending on how long the fire key was held.

Beam
Fires a continuous beam as long as the fire key is held.

Burst
Fires bullets while the fire key is held. Shoots in set bursts of multiple projectiles and consumes more than one ammunition in a single trigger pull.

Guns are the player's primary method of attacking enemies, and can be found by opening chests, defeating bosses, purchasing them from shops, or receiving them from NPCs. The player can carry an unlimited number of guns.

All guns with the exception of starter weapons, Gunther, Elimentaler, Casey, Dueling Laser, Windgunner, Betrayer's Shield with Synergy.png Betrayer's Lies, or AKEY-47 with Synergy.png Akey Breaky require ammunition to fire, which can be restocked via the collection of ammo pickups. Infinite ammo weapons are incapable of revealing secret walls while limited ammo guns can.
If a gun is out of ammo, holding down the fire button will charge up to throw the whole weapon. Thrown guns must be recollected by the player wherever they land, and deal 20 damage upon hitting an enemy.

All guns with a limited magazine size must reload after emptying their clip. How fast each weapon reloads is different depending on the gun, but can be quickened via items or synergies that interact with the users Reload Speed. If a gun is left unequipped for double the time of its normal reload, it will passively reload.

If left on the ground, guns will be stolen by the Resourceful Rat.

Notes

  • There are currently 243 guns in the game total, including 191 base game guns, 15 guns that were added in the Supply Drop Indicator.png update, 15 guns that were added in the AGD Indicator.png update, and 22 guns that were added in the AFTA Indicator.png update.
  • If the player attempts to fire a gun while its barrel is inside a wall, the gun will not be able to shoot. This prevents wasting ammo in scenarios where the fired projectile would immediately collide with a wall tile.
  • If the player has the Ring of the Resourceful Rat, guns stolen by the Resourceful Rat will be traded for a similar-powered item, while having the Synergy.png Resourceful Indeed synergy removes the stealing entirely.
  • Because infinite ammo guns can never run out of ammo, they can never be thrown.
  • The damage of thrown guns can be increased by the Ruby Bracelet, which causes thrown guns to explode.
  • Thrown guns can detect secret rooms.
  • The Synergy.png Cormorant synergy makes gun reloads instantaneous.

Gun Class

Guns come in various different 'classes' that determine how they generate as loot, and prevent too many similar guns from appearing in one run. The classes that particular guns fall into are listed in the rightmost column of the table above, and a full list of the different class types is as follows; NONE, PISTOL, SHOTGUN, FULLAUTO, RIFLE, BEAM, POISON, FIRE, ICE, CHARM, EXPLOSIVE, SILLY, SHITTY, and CHARGE. Each gun has ONE class chosen from the list.

Having a gun of a certain type in the player's inventory reduces the chances of another gun of the same type generating as loot by 50%. E.g.; Having a shotgun makes the player 50% less likely to find another shotgun.

The exact formula is as follows, where 'A' is the amount of guns of the same type in the player's inventory.


There are two exceptions to this:

  1. NONE class guns do not affect the rarity of other NONE class guns.
  2. SHITTY class guns have a slightly tweaked formula. Instead of each gun making the others 50% less common, each SHITTY gun makes obtaining another SHITTY gun 90% less common.

Class Notes

  • All character starters except for Blasphemy and the Slinger are SHITTY class, meaning that from the very beginning most characters are less likely to get SHITTY class guns.
  • The Synergy.png Shotgun Affinity synergy affects all weapons of SHOTGUN type.

Bugs

  • Charging guns, such as the Railgun, Heroine, or BSG, will break destructible objects upon making contact with the weapon while being it's charged, separately from player contact. This is particularly hazardous with explosive barrels.
    • The hitbox only seems to affect objects and doesn't deal any damage to chests or enemies.
    • This doesn't work with all charging weapons, possibly due to their size. For instance, the Charmed Bow will not explode barrels or break debris this way, no matter how close the player is.
