This striking handgun was forged hundreds of years ago by a forgotten gunsmith. Though its power has weakened, it occasionally recalls its former might.

Vorpal Gun is a gun that appears in Enter the Gungeon.

Effects

  • A regular revolver pistol. Every shot has a 1% chance to be replaced by a crit-shot that instantly hits the nearest enemy in the direction the player is aiming, dealing 100 damage.
    • Crit-shots are more common the higher the player's Coolness stat is. Each level of coolness increases the percentage chance of firing a crit-shot by 1.
      • In co-op mode, this effect is based on the combined coolness of both players, not just the one holding the gun.
    • Time will slightly slow for a moment when a crit-shot activates.

Synergies ETG

  • Synergy.png Critcaliber - If the player also has Bullet Idol, after taking damage with the gun held, the next Vorpal Gun shot is guaranteed to be a critical shot.

Item Interactions

  • Any items which increase coolness (such as the Ballot.png Ballot or Ice Cube.png Ice Cube) greatly boost the Vorpal Gun's effectiveness by making crits more likely.
  • Scattershot.png Scattershot - Time will no longer slightly slow down when a crit-shot activates. Crits are rolled per shot, so if the next shot will be a crit, all 3 shots will crit.
  • Smoke Bomb.png Smoke Bomb / Grey Mauser (Gun).png Grey Mauser / The Predator.png The Predator / Box.png Box - If the player is Stealth.png Stealthed, the Vorpal Gun will always crit.
  • Duct Tape.png Duct Tape - If another gun is duct taped to the Vorpal Gun, bullets from that gun will also have a chance to be replaced by crit-shots. However, if the Vorpal Gun is taped onto a different gun, it loses the ability to crit.

Notes

  • Because crit-shots instantly hit the nearest enemy in the aimed direction, they do not interact with environmental objects such as barrels, cannot break chests or secret room walls, or awaken Mimics.
  • The word 'Vorpal' is a nonsense word coined by Lewis Carrol in his nonsense poem 'Jabberwocky'. It describes a blade which is supposedly very sharp.
  • This gun is also a reference to an artifact type called "Vorpal" from Dungeons & Dragons, that upon a roll of natural 20 severs the head of those it strikes, in most cases instantly killing them.
  • The Vorpal Gun also resembles the Gunblade recurring weapon type from the Final Fantasy series, first introduced in Final Fantasy VII.
  • The entry for the Vorpal Gun in the Physical Ammonomicon has a small doodle of '20!' in block text.
