Hot Air
Grants flight while held, but pops when damage is taken. Can be reinflated with an ammo box.
A common party favor at Gungeon parties. Gungeon parties are, to be fair, fairly uncommon.

Balloon Gun is a gun that appears in Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon.

Behaviour

Fires small vortexes of air resembling miniature tornadoes. These whirlwinds travel a small distance before losing momentum and slowly homing in on enemies. Additionally, if the Balloon Gun has ammo, it will grant flight to its bearer while held.

  • ETG The fired vortexes pierce once, allowing them to hit the same enemy twice.
  • If the player takes damage while holding the Balloon Gun, the gun will 'pop', losing all its remaining ammunition.

Synergies ETG

  • Synergy.png Get Equipped With -A- - If the player has Megahand, enables Air Shooter mode on Megahand, which fires Balloon Gun tornadoes while uncharged. Modes can be switched by reloading the Megahand with a full magazine.
  • Synergy.png Paper Lanterns - If the player also has Origuni, while holding either gun in a room with enemies, paper lanterns periodically spawn, which drift towards enemies and deal damage.
  • Synergy.png Three Sheets - If the player also has Corsair, movement speed is increased, the damage of both guns is doubled, and their bullets travel 20% faster.

Item Interactions

  • Helix Bullets.png Helix BulletsETG - Vortexes fired by the Balloon gun will never lose their momentum.
  • Full Metal Jacket.png Full Metal Jacket - Damage that is prevented by the Full Metal Jacket will not pop the Balloon Gun.
  • Rocket-Powered Bullets.png Rocket-Powered Bullets - Increases the effective range of the Balloon Gun by increasing the initial velocity of its vortexes.
  • Angry Bullets.png Angry Bullets - The slow movement speed and homing of the Balloon Gun's projectiles allows them to rebound repeatedly around the same group of enemies indefinitely, with low risk of missing.
  • Holey Grail.png Holey Grail - If Holey Grail was picked up after the Balloon Gun, it will restore part of the Balloon Guns ammo after the player takes damage, effectively preventing it from popping.
    • This effect does not work if the Holey Grail was picked up first, however this order can be easily rectified by dropping the Holey Grail and picking it up again.

Other Appearances

  • The Balloon Gun is shown among other guns on an official Enter the Gungeon tote bag, illustrated by Joseph Harmon.[1]

Notes

  • The Balloon gun will still pop if the player takes damage to Armor.
  • ETG If the Balloon Gun loses its ammo due to taking damage, it will be rendered invisible, having no sprite until ammo is restored. Running out of ammo in the regular fashion does not 'pop' the balloon gun or alter its sprite.
    • If the Balloon Gun is dropped while 'popped', it can be very difficult to retrieve due to being completely invisible. It is not, however, impossible to recollect the weapon.
    • If the Balloon Gun is thrown while 'popped', it will completely disappear, and cannot be retrieved. The Resourceful Rat can still steal the weapon in this state, however.
    • The Balloon Gun can be sold to the Sell Creep, given to a Muncher, or Duct Taped while popped.
    • The Balloon Gun does not appear in the death or win pages of the Ammonomicon if it is popped.
  • The Balloon Gun is a reference to the art of balloon twisting, which involves bending and twisting long cylindrical balloons into recognisable shapes. The most well known form of balloon twisting is balloon animals, however imitations of weapons such as swords and guns made out of balloons are also popular.
  • The Ammonomicon quote "Hot Air" is a reference to hot air baloons, which are also used for flight.
