Full Metal Jacket is a passive item that appears in Enter the Gungeon.

Effects

• Automatically uses one of the player's Blanks if they are about to take damage, preventing it.
  • This can negate contact damage, which regular blanks do not normally prevent.
• Grants one piece of Armor when picked up for the first time.

Synergies ^ETG

• The Line of Fire - If the player has Composite Gun, the bullets leave a trail of fire.
• To Serve Android - If the player also has the Badge, the police officer turns into a robot and cannot die.

Item Interactions

• Elder Blank - If Elder Blank is charged, taking damage will automatically trigger the Elder Blank, and prevent that damage.
  • Fall damage does not trigger Full Metal Jacket unless the player has Elder Blank.
• Polaris, Metronome, Meatbun - Since damage prevented by Full Metal Jacket does not count as taking damage, it is very valuable for protecting the bonuses of these items.
• Old Crest, Glass Guon Stone, Glass Cannon, Balloon Gun - Damage prevented by Full Metal Jacket will not cause these items to break.
• Crisis Stone - Full Metal Jacket will still trigger a blank when bullets collide with the player even while crisis stone is active.
• Cigarettes - Full Metal Jacket can prevent damage caused by Cigarettes, which is normally impossible to prevent.

Unused and Cut Content

• A twitter post from Dodge Roll lead designer Dave Crooks in August 2016 shows a prototype version of the Full Metal Jacket's Ammonomicon entry. The item here is called Full Blank Jacket, and the description is more tongue-in-cheek, reading;

Totally Original Idea
Activates a Blank when the wearer is struck by gunfire.
The original creators of the Gungeon were clearly geniuses, as this highly useful vest (which was completely their brainchild) proves.

Notes

• Full Metal Jacket is extremely valuable for collecting Master Rounds.
• When damaged by harmful Status Effects, Full Metal Jacket will still use a blank, despite the damage not being caused by bullets.
• This item is a reference to full metal jacket ammunition, where the lead slug is encased in a 'jacket' comprised of a harder alloy to improve the rounds piercing capability.
• The To Serve Android synergy is a reference to the real full metal jackets used by police, as well as Robocop.
  • It is also a reference to the short story "To Serve Man" by Damon Knight which was adapted for use as a Twilight Zone episode.
• Bug If the player has at least one Blank and has the map open, they become immune to all types of damage except for fall damage. If the player falls into a pit while the map is open, the damage immunity will be removed until they close and reopen the map, even if Amulet of the Pit Lord is in the player's inventory.
  • If the player has the map open and has the Elder Blank, it will still activate, starting the cooldown. This means that the bug can not be exploited with the Elder Blank alone.
