Ammonomicon Entry
Jealous Weapon
Grows more powerful with each room cleared.

This distrustful gun has gained sentience. As with all intelligent weapons, he should be treated with respect and care.

Gunther is a gun that appears in Enter the Gungeon. It is alive, talks, and grows stronger with each room cleared.

Effects

Gunther has 3 stages of behavior. Upon clearing a room, there is a chance to gain friendship with Gunther, indicated by him talking. At 3 friendship, Gunther advances to the second stage. At 6 friendship, he advances to the third and final stage.

  • First Stage: Fires piercing bullets at 6 damage.
  • Second Stage: Besides piercing, bullets deal 9 damage and bounce twice.
  • Third Stage: Bullets deal 12 damage and home in on enemies instead of bouncing.

Dialogue

Dialogue
(Gaining friendship, First Stage)

Dialoguerandom.png My previous owner cleared that room faster.
Dialoguerandom.png Next time, aim a little better.
Dialoguerandom.png This is going to be a long day.
Dialoguerandom.png Well, you didn't die.
Dialoguerandom.png yawn
Dialoguerandom.png Why am I here?

(Gaining friendship, First Stage)

Dialoguerandom.png ...well done.
Dialoguerandom.png Not bad for a Random Insult.
Dialoguerandom.png That was alright, I guess.
Dialoguerandom.png Decent use of bullets.
Dialoguerandom.png I'd give that a C... minus.
Dialoguerandom.png Maybe I was wrong about you.

(Gaining friendship, First Stage)

Dialoguerandom.png We make a pretty good team.
Dialoguerandom.png Top-notch work.
Dialoguerandom.png Past, here we come!
Dialoguerandom.png Phew! That was exciting.
Dialoguerandom.png Yeah!
Dialoguerandom.png Go team Gungeon!

Unused and Cut Content

  • There are three unused lines of dialogue for Gunther, with the string key #MASKGUN_JEALOUS;

Dialoguerandom.png I saw you looking at those other guns. They got nothing on this.
Dialoguerandom.png Those other guns may look like they have some kick, but they don't have the razzle dazzle like I do.
Dialoguerandom.png You may think you want a steady relationship with a normal gun, but I know you. You like the wild ones.

Other Appearances

  • Gunther is shown among other guns on an official Enter the Gungeon tote bag, illustrated by Joseph Harmon.[1]

Notes

  • Similar to other guns with infinite ammo, Gunther cannot be combined with other guns using Duct Tape.png Duct Tape, be fed to the muncher, or reveal secret rooms.
  • Gunjurers cannot absorb Gunther's bullets at stage 3.
  • The bullets of this gun ignore the Unfriendly Fire.png Unfriendly Fire Challenge Mode modifier.
  • When shooting a north wall, Gunther's bullets will leave magical singe-marks shaped like the letters N, R, and Φ. These are the same symbols fired by Bookllets.
  • When Gunther's magazine is fully empty, he will appear to go to sleep.
  • Gunthers hammer appears to strike him in the side of the face when he is fired, causing him to wince.
  • Gunther has two reload animations. When reloading a partially empty magazine, the character flips him end over end. When reloading a fully empty magazine, the character tilts Gunther on his side and shakes him.
  • The quote "Go team Gungeon!" may be a reference to the catch phrase "Go team Venture!" from the Venture Bros.
  • Gunther is a pun on Gun and the common German name Günther.
  • Gunthers idle animation, continually glancing left to right, is likely a reference to the Status bar face in the original DOOM.
  • The Ammonomicon quote "Jealous Weapon" may be a reference to the character Gunther in the television show Friends. In the show, Gunther is portrayed as a deeply jealous figure with a possessive— unrequited —love for the character Rachel, and is begrudging of the other men who get her attention.
  • FixedBug.png Fixed Bug Prior to the Supply Drop Update, dropping Gunther would reset his friendship progress.
