Fossilized Gun is a gun that appears in Enter the Gungeon It fires a stream of oil goop. Reloading causes the skull to spit fire, which can ignite the oil.
Synergies ETG
Cryptic Cryptids - If the player also has Phoenix, both guns gain piercing and deal more damage, and Phoenix shoots rows of fire on the ground. The player is also immune to fire when either gun is equipped.
Dawn of the Gundead - Doubles the chance for Zombie Bullets to refund missed Fossilized Gun shots.
Item Interactions
Bouncy Bullets - The bouncing effect is extremely effective at coating whole rooms in oil. Additionally, oil streams that bounce back towards the player will not leave oil goop underneath them, leaving a safe patch in which to stand while igniting the oil.
Ring of Fire Resistance,
Hazmat Suit,
Wax Wings,
Ring of Ethereal Form,
Cat Bullet King Throne - These items provide immunity to burning goop, rendering the Fossilized Gun significantly safer to use.
Jetpack - In addition to providing flight and safety from the fire, the Jetpack will also automatically ignite goop underneath the player while active.
Sponge - The sponge will remove oil in a radius around the player, making the Fossilized Gun safer to use, but also potentially reducing its effectiveness.
Cut Content
- In pre-alpha versions of Enter the Gungeon, the Fossilized Gun had a different appearance- looking more like an actual gun fossilised in a slab of rock instead of a dinosaur skull. Additionally, this version of the gun had only 100 maximum ammo.[1]
Notes
- The plume of flame belched by the Fossilized Gun when reloading solely has the effect of igniting flammable goop. It does not harm enemies, trigger explosive barrels, or anger Bello. Additionally, the Fossilized Gun can be reloaded and made to spit fire regardless of its current ammo count- it can even be used this way when empty.
- Is is possible to pre-clear rooms by firing blindly into them from the doorway without fully entering, and then igniting the placed oil. This strategy is however inconsistent due to the high variance in room layouts in Enter the Gungeon.
- This gun is a combined reference to dinosaur fossils, fossil fuels (ie; oil, so named because it is formed from organic remains), and fire-breathing dragons.
Bug Pausing the game for a long time while Fossilized Gun oil streams are mid-flight can result in severe lag when un-pausing the game. This is because the streams continue to place oil underneath themselves while the game is paused, resulting in a large number of goop visual effects which all attempt to play at once when the game is unpaused.
