Professor Goopton

From Enter the Gungeon Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Professor Goopton is a merchant NPC in Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon. All dialogue spoken by Goopton is rendered in an alternative font called Gleepglorpenese internally, which makes him extremely difficult to understand. Functionally, however, Gleepglorpenese is just a basic substitution cipher.

Function

Professor Goopton runs a small shop within The Gungeon, offering passing Gungeoneers a variety of goop and slime themed items and guns in exchange for Money.png.

Enter the GungeonETG

Items in Gooptons Gungeon shop are all offered at 80% price, giving a 20% discount over regular shop prices. While Goopton is difficult to understand, his dialogue is reverted back into the default Enter the Gungeon font whenever the player has the Sponge, allowing them to understand him.

After purchasing an item from his shop in the Gungeon, Professor Goopton will also move into the upper right area of The Breach where he operates another shop, offering goop and slime themed item and gun unlocks in exchange for Hegemony Credit.png.
A total of 146 Hegemony Credit.png is required to purchase everything from this shop.

Exit the GungeonXTG

Once rescued from a cell using a purchased Rat Key, Goopton will appear at random in NPC rooms in the main shop, operating his own storefront of goo themed items at a 33.333...% discount. Professor Gooptons dialogue is still displayed in Gleepglorpenese in Exit the Gungeon, however the lack of the Sponge item in Exit the Gungeon means that the only option availiable to players who wish to understand his dialogue is manual deciphering or datamining.

QuestXTG

After speaking to Professor Goopton a certain number of times, he will request that the player retrieve him Salt. Salt is a quest item, and can be obtained from snatching it out from under Resourceful Rat shaped balloons in Just Deserts Golf and Winchesters Original Game.
Delivering the Salt to Goopton will result in his children being absent on subsequent runs, replaced by ominous blood spatter on the walls and floor of the room.

Notes

  • His room will be full of baby Gooptons that will bounce up and down.
    • The player may have an effect on how high they bounce.
    • Baby Gooptons under the shop machine platform will occasionally hit their heads into it.

Notes

  • The characters and substitution cipher of Gleepglorpenese are taken directly from Alienese, a substitution cipher from Futurama.
  • Professor Goopton is one of the few NPC's who will talk to the CultistETG.
