Serpent
The Serpent or Baby Dragun is a secret NPC and companion that appears in Enter the Gungeon. It is part of the secret sequence of events required to fight the Advanced Dragun.
How to Acquire
To acquire the Serpent companion, the player must first find them as an NPC within The Gungeon. It can be found in a guaranteed secret room which always appears connected to the reward room after the Resourceful Rat bossfight in the Resourceful Rat's Lair. In this room, it is secured behind two locked doors which require Rat Keys to open.
In addition to this guaranteed appearance, it can also be spawned by dropping the Weird Egg into burning goop. After a few moments, the Egg will crack and reveal a Serpent within. While obtaining the Weird Egg is dependent on RNG, it does not require the 150

Once found, the Serpent must be fed four items or guns, done by dropping them on the ground near the creature, after which it will begin to accompany the player as a companion.
- The Serpent can be fed otherwise largely valueless items such as
Glass Guon Stones.
- The Serpent can also devour the dead body of the Resourceful Rat, provided the player is able to defeat the bosses third phase. This body counts as one item for the purposes of feeding the serpent.
Effects
- Once acquired, the Serpent will follow the player as an orbital, snaking around them in a wave pattern.
- The Serpent will block enemy projectiles, similarly to a guon stone.
- During the High Dragun boss fight, the Serpent will leave the players side- flying back and forth beside the High Dragun periodically spitting an irregular spread of seven enemy bullets at the player. This can make even the non-advanced phases of the High Dragun considerably more difficult.
- Defeating the first phase of the High Dragun with the serpent will automatically trigger the Advanced Dragun fight after the first attack cycle of the High Dragun's usual second phase.
Notes
- While the Serpent in the Rat's Lair appears behind two locked doors, the player can throw passive items through the second door, with just enough force for these items to reach and feed the serpent. This allows the player to acquire the serpent while spending only one Rat Key.
- Despite being an item internally, the Serpent does not appear in the players inventory on the map screen or Ammonomicon, and has no Ammonomicon description.
- If the player acquires the
Weird Egg and visits the Resourceful Rat's Lair in the same run, they can acquire multiple serpents. Only one Serpent will join the High Dragun during its bossfight, the rest will disappear- reappearing when the player enters a new chamber
Clone can also allow the player to obtain multiple Serpents in one run.
