Patches and Mendy are NPCs that can be encountered at random within the Gungeon in Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon.
Function
Mendy (the nurse on the right) will offer to heal the player if they are below maximum health. If the player accepts the offer, Patches will smash a jar containing a fairy over their head, fully heals all of the players empty heart containers.
- If the player is The Robot, Mendy will instead give either a piece of
Armor, 
Junk, or the 
Bottle. - Mendy will not offer to heal players who are at full health.
- As there is only one fairy bottle, they can only provide this full heal once per encounter.
Other Appearances
- The sleeve for the 2022 special edition vinyl release of the Enter the Gungeon soundtrack includes an illustration of Patches and Mendy by artist Joseph Harmon.
Cut Content
- An IGN pre-release teaser for Enter the Gungeon shows Patches and Mendy in the Breach during a shot intended to illustrate the population of the Breach over time. Whether this means that Patches and Mendy initially appeared in the Breach during pre-release versions of Enter the Gungeon, or if they were simply placed there to fill space is unknown.[1]
Notes
- The nurses will not refuse to heal the Cultist in co-op mode.
Bug If the Lord of the Jammed is reaching the player while being healed, he can still deal damage during the animation and the player will get stuck in the tent and continuously take damage. The only way out is to use a teleporter.- The method of healing employed by the nurses is a reference to The Legend of Zelda series, in which the player can heal themselves using bottled fairies.
- Patches appears to be wearing a clown nose, which may be a reference to the real life doctor, Patch Adams. This also could be a Robin Williams reference about his movie of the same name and his TV Shows Mork and Mindy.
