The Dragunfire Cultists are a collection of minor NPCs that appear in Enter the Gungeon.

Function

Dragunfirecultist closeup.png

The Dragunfire Cultists appear exclusively in a rare secret room that can only generate in the Gungeon Proper. Only one of the Cultists will speak to the player, with the others being absorbed in prayer before a red chest. The chest they surround will always contain the High Dragunfire.png High Dragunfire on the first visit, and opening it will unlock the gun permanently, allowing it to appear in 1S Quality Item.png chests.

The Cultists themselves are not necessary for this unlock, and serve primarily as set dressing.

On subsequent visits to this secret room, the red chest containing the High Dragunfire will be replaced by a regular chest of a random quality. The dialogue of the speaking Cultist will be different, however their behaviour does not change.

Notes

  • The Dragunfire Cultists are based on the Gun Cultist enemy.
  • The Dragunfire Cultists are not marked on the map, and neither is the red chest which contains the High Dragunfire.
  • The Cultists do not block the players projectiles, and do not react to being shot through. Additionally, they do not have the projectile repulsion fields of most NPCs.
  • The Chest that the Dragunfire Cultists guard is susceptible to a number of changes, like normal chests;
    • The Chest can contain an Infuriating Note.png Infuriating Note instead of the High Dragunfire.
    • The Chest can be a Mimic. In this instance, killing the mimic will drop and unlock the High Dragunfire.
    • The Chest can be glitched. Opening the chest while glitched will take the player to the glitched Beholster bossfight in the next chamber as normal, and will not drop the High Dragunfire. Despite this however, the High Dragunfire will still be unlocked.
      • This was first documented by YouTube Let's Player Retromation, the inventor of the Rainbow Run concept.
    • Like all Chests, its contents will be taken by Bowler in Rainbow Mode, however opening the chest will still unlock the High Dragunfire.
  • If the Chest containing the High Dragunfire is broken, the gun will not be unlocked.
