Goop

From Enter the Gungeon Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

A variety of liquids, known as Goop, can be found in the Gungeon. Sources of goop include items, guns, objects, and enemies.

All goop besides oil can be used to put out fuses on chests and the fireplace in the Keep of the Lead Lord. Gungine and Plunger restore ammo if reloaded while standing on any goop.

Common Goops

These goops have many different sources, and appear relatively frequently within the Gungeon.

Water
Water.png
Can be Ignited: Checkbox false.png
Can be Electrified: Checkbox true.png
Can be Frozen: Checkbox true.png
Effect

A common goop, with no effect on its own.

Any explosions which use the ice damage type (for example if Explosive Rounds.png Explosive Rounds triggers on Cold 45.png Cold 45) will automatically create a pool of water at their position. This water is then immediately frozen.

Water created by the Mega Douser.png Mega Douser with the Synergy.png Napalm B synergy will be flammable, despite this not being a normal property of water goop.

Effect

A common goop that is mechanically similar to Oil, with the exception that it immediately ignites after being spilled. For this reason, it is most commonly referred to as 'fire goop' by players.
Despite this, fire is a goop state, rather than a goop in its own right. Not all goops which ignite are napalm.

Any explosions which use the fire damage type (for example if Hot Lead.png Hot Lead triggers on RPG.png RPG) will automatically create a pool of napalm at their position.

Uncommon Goops

These goops are rarer, with only a small handful of sources each.

Green Napalm
Green Napalm.png
Can be Ignited: Checkbox true.png
Can be Electrified: Checkbox false.png
Can be Frozen: Checkbox false.png
Effect

Mechanically identical to napalm goop, but with a custom green fire definition when ignited. Like regular napalm, green napalm will automatically ignite almost immediately after being spilled. Commonly referred to as Green Fire goop among players, as it is the only goop which produces green fire when ignited.

Instead of applying the regular fire effect to enemies once ignited, Green Napalm is unique in that it applies the never-ending Green Fire status effect. Does not affect the player.

Goop States

In addition to their base states and effects, there are three additional states that can be applied to goop. Despite common misconception, these states are not goops in their own right. Each state is handled separately, and the three states can be applied at the same time- though this can only happen with the flammable water created by the Mega Douser.png Mega Douser with the Synergy.png Napalm B synergy.

Fire / Burning

Fire State.png

Certain goops are considered flammable, and can be lit on fire, which quickly spreads throughout the goop pool setting it all ablaze. Different goops may ignite into different kinds of fire, although this potential is only utilised by Green Napalm. Goops that have been set on fire will inflict the fire status effect on enemies and the player, with the exception of Green Napalm which inflicts the green fire status effect on enemies and does not affect the player.

Flying enemies such as Gigis or Hollowpoints will be affected by burning goops, despite usually being immune to floor hazards. Despite this, if the player is flying, they will be immune to the effects of burning goop.

The Fireplace, and chest fuses can be extinguished by any goop that is not flammable. The specific absence of the flammable property is what determines if a given goop can be used for this purpose.

Sources

Flammable goops can be set on fire in the following ways;

  • Explosions of any kind will ignite flammable goops caught in their radius.
  • Any projectiles with the fire damage type will ignite flammable goops they pass over. Examples include the Pitchfork.png Pitchfork and Flame Hand.png Flame Hand.
  • Muzzle-flash of the Phoenix.png Phoenix.
  • Reload effect of the Fossilized Gun.png Fossilized Gun.
  • Hovering over the goop while using the Jetpack.png Jetpack.
  • Tossed Cigarettes.png Cigarettes.
  • Touching a lit fuse.
  • Being stepped on by an enemy that is on fire. Burning players do not ignite flammable goop.
  • Flame Traps triggering underneath.
  • Shooting a torch or burning skeleton while there is flammable goop on the floor underneath. Lanterns, sconses, and electric lights do not have this effect.

Frozen / Ice

Ice State.png

Certain goops are considered freezable, and can be converted into ice which spreads throughout the goop pool until the entire pool is frozen over. Frozen goops do not have any special effect on enemies, but will cause the movement of players standing on them to be slippery, and difficult to control. Goops that are frozen cannot be electrified, however goops that are electrified can be frozen, resulting in electrified ice until the electrified state wears off.

Sources

Freezable goops can be frozen in the following ways;

  • Any projectiles with the ice damage type will freeze applicable goops they pass over. Examples include the Frost Giant.png Frost Giant and Ice Breaker.png Ice Breaker.
  • If an explosion is triggered with the ice damage type, it will create an additional pool of Water goop at its position, which is then immediately frozen.
  • Ambient ice floor hazards in the Hollow will cause any freezable goop that touches them to also become frozen.

Electrified

Electrified State.png

Certain goops are considered conductive, and can be electrified. Unlike fire and ice, the electric state spreads throughout the entirety of the affected goop pool instantaneously, and does not spread to any additional goop spilled after the effect has started. Electrified goops will deal 10 damage per second to enemies that stand on it, as well as dealing half a heart of instant damage to players that touch it.

Sources

Freezable goops can be frozen in the following ways;

  • Any projectiles with the electric damage type will electrify applicable goops they pass over. Examples include the Shock Rifle.png Shock Rifle and Thunderclap.png Thunderclap. Battery Bullets.png Battery Bullets applies the electric damage type to all projectiles fired by the player, resulting in all of their bullets electrifying goop.
