Set The World On Fire
Nuclear arms were forbidden by the Third Interstellar Armistice, but as large sections of the Gungeon existed before that accord was signed, it is a bit of a grey area legally.

Big Boy is an active item in Enter the Gungeon

Effects

  • Calls down a missile at the crosshair, causing a large nuclear explosion that deals 150 damage and leaves behind a large pool of poison goop.
    • Enemies within a large radius of the explosion turn into Mutant Bullet Kin. This effect can transform enemies that are normally invulnerable, such as Gunreapers.
    • The explosion will clear enemy bullets in a large area.
  • Increases Curse rounded.png Curse by 1 while held.

Synergies ETG

  • Synergy.png Meltdown - If the player also has Gamma Ray, Gamma Ray branches twice to form a spread of 5 beams, and using Big Boy refills 100 ammo on the Gamma Ray. Ammo restoration only works if Gamma Ray is held when activating Big Boy.
  • Synergy.png Natural Selection - If the player also has Evolver, it evolves after every 3 unique enemy types killed instead of 5.
  • Normally invulnerable enemies like Gunreapers can be transformed into Mutant Bullet Kin.

Notes

  • The damage done upon use will contribute to its recharge, even without Ice Cube.
  • The Big Boy's explosion transforming enemies into Mutant Bullet Kin is a reference to the mutagenic effects of radiation, such as would contaminate the environment in the wake of a nuclear explosion.
    • It may also be a secondary reference to the Ghoul enemies from the Fallout franchise, which are humans that have been mutated by nuclear radiation.
  • The Ammonomicon quote "Set The World On Fire" is a reference to the song I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire by the Ink Spots. This song is famously and prominently used in the Fallout franchise.
  • The name Big Boy is a reference to Little Boy, the code-name for the nuclear bomb which was dropped on the city of Hiroshima in 1945.
  • The appearance of the Big Boy is a reference to the Moscow-Washington hotline, a direct communications link between the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and the Kremlin in Moscow. This communication was established to increase co-operation between the United States of America and the Russian Federation (formerly the Soviet Union), and potentially prevent the escalation of nuclear warfare between the two superpowers.
    • This hotline is commonly referred to as the "Red Telephone" in pop culture (Hence the appearance of the Big Boy). Despite this, the hotline is not actually a telephone, but rather a text-based system.
  • Big Boy was reduced in quality from A Quality Item.png to B Quality Item.png in AGD Indicator.png.
  • The explosion created by Big Boy looks identical to that which appears when defeating the Lich.
  • The Sniper Shells spawned atop the Wallmonger by the Night's Watch.png Night's Watch challenge modifier are usually completely invulnerable, but can still be transmogrified into Mutant Bullet Kin by the Big Boy's blast.
