The letter r looks like a gun.
It is rare, but not unheard of, for abstract concepts to take gun form when discussed near the Gungeon. |
Lower Case r is a gun that appears in Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon. It fires a burst of 6 letter-shaped projectiles that spell out the word BULLET. While firing, the gun will voice out the word "bullet".
Synergies ETG
All synergies that affect what letters Lower Case r fires increase the base damage per letter from 2.2 to 5, and causes the gun to voice out whatever word was just fired.
Hacker - If the player also has Bracket Key, damage is increased by 25%.
Just In Case - If the player has Bomb, the gun becomes a capital letter R and transforms into a one shot rocket launcher. It fires the word ROCKET with cloud sprites when shot, and creates a cartoony BOOM cloud when it hits something.
Rabid - If the player has Angry Bullets, the words LOSER, DORK, CHUMP, NOODLE, and TAFFER are spelled out.
Radiant - If the player has Silver Bullets, the words SILVER, BLESSED, and WEREWOLF are spelled out. When it shoots "WEREWOLF", the firing sound is "DIE WEREWOLF DIE".
Ravishing - If the player has Charming Rounds, the words HANDSOME, CHARM, and CUTE are spelled out, and shots become charming.
Reactive - If the player has Explosive Rounds, the words ROCKET, BOOM, KABOOM, and POW are spelled out, and shots become explosive.
Reanimate - If the player has Ghost Bullets, the words SPOOKY, GHOST, and BOO are spelled out.
Reinforced - If the player has +1 Bullets, BULLET+1 is spelled out.
Remnant - If the player has Omega Bullets, an omega appears after BULLET.
Replete - If the player also has Finished Gun, the words COWABUNGA, BOOYAKASHA, THANK YOU, THANKS, HASTA LA VISTA, TOODLES, GOODBYE, FAREWELL, and GAME OVER are spelled out.
Research - If the player has Book of Chest Anatomy, the words CHEST and MIMIC are spelled out, and the gun can unlock locked chests and doors.
Resplendent - If the player has Gilded Bullets, the words CASH, COINS, SHELLS, and GOLD are spelled out.
Root - If the player has Alpha Bullets, an alpha appears before BULLET.
Runic - If the player has Magic Bullets, the words ABRA and KADABRA are spelled out, and the words turn dark purple.
Unused and Cut Content
- The upper case form of the gun used in the
Just In Case synergy was developed as its own gun with its own name and description. Before being turned into a synergy.
Uppercase R
ALPHABETICAL!
The uppercase version of the letter r.Although the uppercase version of the “r” character does not resemble a gun, the space between the two lower markings does create a kind of chute shape, and chute sounds a lot like shoot. The rest is obvious.
Notes
- The Lower Case r is voiced by Doseone, the composer of Enter the Gungeons soundtrack.
- This gun, while obviously a surface level reference to the basic shape of the letter r, may also be a reference to early computer adventure games. These early games used ASCII art comprised of letters and numbers to render a game world.
- The reload animation of the Lower Case r consists of a text cursor deleting the letter with a backspace, and typing an entirely new r.
- The impact animation of Lower Case rs bullets consists of the spelled word 'BLAM!' rather than an actual impact.
- The Ammonomicon quote "Alphabetical!" may be a reference to early seasons of the show Adventure Time, where the protagonist Finn sometimes exclaims "Mathematical!".
- The word "TAFFER" which can be fired with Angry Bullets is a reference to the same word used as an insult by guards in Thief: The Dark Project.
- The synergy Radiant may be a visual pun referencing Radiant Silvergun.
- Dave Crooks has agreed with Reddit suggestions that the Lower Case r should change the pitch and speed of Doseones voice acting depending on the players Rate of Fire.[1] However, this was never implemented.
- All of Lower Case r's synergies which modify the words fired were created based on the suggestion of a Reddit post by user u/XelNecra. The post directly describes the
Rabid,
Ravishing,
Reinforced,
Root, and
Remnant synergies, while suggesting that more could be created for other bullet modifiers.
Bugs
- If both scattershot and explosive rounds are also held, occasionally fires multiple words on a single trigger pull.
