Improves the contents of broken chests.

The collected learnings of generations of treasure hunters. This handy book details the mysterious inner mechanisms of the dungeon chests.

Book of Chest Anatomy is a passive item in Enter the Gungeon.

Effects

  • Improves drops from broken chests.
    • 45% chance to drop a random pickup.
    • 50% chance to drop an item or gun based on the chests regular break loot table. (See Chests#Chest Destruction for more information)
    • 5% chance to drop an item or gun of the same quality as the broken chest. (Bypasses the special loot pool of Blue Chest.png Blue Chests)
  • Broken chests will no longer pay out with Junk.png Junk or explosions.
  • Ser Junkan.png Ser Junkan no longer has a set elevated chance to appear, but may still appear as a regular random item drop.

Synergies ETG

  • Synergy.png Research - If the player also has Lower Case r, it spells out the words CHEST and MIMIC, and the gun can unlock chests and locked doors.

Item Interactions

  • Ser Junkan.png Ser Junkan - The player should consider dropping Book of Chest Anatomy before breaking low quality chests to allow Junk.png Junk to drop.
  • Bug.png Bug The Exotic.png The Exotic / Synergy.png Brave New World / Synergy.png Detective Mode / Synergy.png Unbelievably Charming - These guns/synergies all allow the player to reveal the contents of chests before opening them. If a chest has had its contents predicted, those contents then become 'locked in' for the chest, and the chest will always attempt to drop those items when paying out with an item—even when that item is from the chests destruction. Because Book of Chest Anatomy raises the chance of broken chests dropping an item to 55%, all chests effectively have a 55% chance to drop the item they were predicted to contain when broken.

Unused and Cut Content

  • UnusedSynergy.png Unused: Glorious Chest Ahead - If the player has Ring of Chest Vampirism, it causes an unknown effect.
    • This synergy is a reference to Dark Souls, in particular, a message left by a player alluding to a character's large chest.
  • There is a variable in the code of Book of Chest Anatomy called PlusQualChance, which defines the chance of broken chests dropping items one tier higher than the chest themselves. This value is always set at 0, however, meaning it will never occur.[1]

  1. Float PlusQualChance in class ChestBrokenImprovementItem. While the variable is set to 0.05f in the code, it is set to 0 on the actual prefab.
