Shelletons are hellish servants to the dark power that was banished to the 6th Chamber.
Formed from hundreds of discarded shell casings, these Gundead spirits wield immense power. As long as their skulls remain intact, they will return to full strength. |

Shelletons are enemies that appear in Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon.
Behaviour
Enter the Gungeon
Shelletons march slowly towards the player, alternating between two methods of attack. In the first attack, the Shelleton will 'sneeze' two wide waves of bullets towards the player, with a broad 120° arc. After performing this attack three times, they will swap to a laser attack- firing a pair of sweeping eye-beams towards the player.
When killed, shelletons will collapse into a pile of loose shell casings and a skull. After a short time in this inert state, the shelleton will begin to reform from the skull. The skull can take damage, and indeed must be destroyed while in the inert state to defeat the shelleton once and for all.
Shelletons are not immune to pits, however should they fall into a pit they will immediately reform somewhere nearby on solid ground, totally unharmed.

Other Appearances
- Shell'tan, the figure depicted in the Ammo Shrine, appears to be a large horned Shelleton.
- The third phase of the Lich resembles a Shelleton, namely the way it rises from a pile of shells during its intro animation. The sprites for this animation are called
infinilich_intro_shelleton
in the assets of Enter the Gungeon. - A Shelleton appears in the animated launch trailer for Enter the Gungeon, emerging from a Gungeoneers spent shell casings- a behaviour not seen in-game.
Unused and Cut Content
- In Pre-Alpha versions of Enter the Gungeon, the Ammo Shrine did not depict Shell'tan. Instead, it depicted a different figure called Bulletzebub who was directly referred to as "demon shelleton of ammo".
- The assets of Enter the Gungeon contain sprites for an unused enemy projectile called
shelleton_shell
. This projectile is interesting in that it doesn't follow the enemy projectile colour scheme, which is likely why it wasn't implemented. - Exit the Gungeon does not have Steam trading cards, however a collection of trading card portraits was created by XTG artist contributor Miroko, but never used. The third of these unused XTG trading cards depicted a Shelleton.
Notes
- If a Shelleton is slashed with Blasphemy during its laser eye sweep, the attack can be canceled, forcing it to use its bullet attack instead.
- Ammomancers can each spawn up to 3 Shelletons, which can speed up Frifle's challenge for 20 Shelletons.
- The name Shelleton is a portmanteau of the words shell (as in the casing of a bullet) and skeleton.
- Shelletons can be spawned by Ammomancers. They immediately collapse into a skull when the Ammomancer is killed.
- The fact that they collapse into a skull and rise again later is a reference to Mario's Dry Bones.
- This may also be a reference to Stalfos from the Legend of Zelda series, who collapse into a skull that must be killed to finish them off.
- CMV In the Chinese Mobile Version of Enter the Gungeon, Shelletons have been visually altered. Their ribcage has been fused into a single large torso piece, and their skull face is semi-obscured by a brown beard or face bandana. Interestingly, their Ammonomicon portrait has not been altered, and the Shelleton still drops an obscured skull when slain.
