Bullet Hell is the secret 6th chamber of The Gungeon. Like all Secret Chambers, it only appears in Enter the Gungeon. It is an infernal cavern, somewhere deep beneath the Gungeon, or perhaps in another plane entirely. It is full of fiery candles, chains and shackles hanging from the walls, and burning skeletons affixted to the walls providing meager light.

Pits in this chamber contain a writhing purple substance, out of which phantom visages of tortured bullet kin can be seen rising and dissipating.

After killing the pasts of all four main Gungeoneers, an entrance to Bullet Hell will open in the Aimless Void area of the Forge. On the first visit after the entry requirements are met, entering Bullet Hell is involuntary, as the colossal skeleton hand of the Lich will drag the player down to Hell no matter what they do. On repeat visits to the Aimless Void after this, a large shimmering rift will be open, and the player will be able to choose to enter it, or walk around.

Using the Gun That Can Kill The Past on The Gunslinger while holding the Bullet That Can Kill The Past does not take the player to the past, but rather to a version of Bullet Hell. This version of Bullet Hell is mostly identical, however the Lich bossfight is altered into the Glitched Lich.

Layout

Bullet Hell is the largest chamber in Enter the Gungeon, consisting almost entirely of combat rooms. There is no Shop, and no other NPCs or Shrines can generate as part of random level generation. There are no chest rooms, although chests can still drop from room clear.

The Secret Room of this chamber is exceedingly difficult to find due to the floors excessive size, and always has the same layout, containing a single Evil Muncher.

Bullet Hell is unique in that, while being randomly generated, it only has a single dungeon flow which governs its general layout. This means that the way rooms are attatched together, and strings of rooms loop around are the same each time.

  • The starting room has three paths. Two of the paths will merge and lead to the second junction, while one of the paths will consist of a single dead end room.
  • The second junction has three more paths. Two of the paths will form a loop, while one of the paths will lead to the third junction.
  • The third junction has three more paths. Two of the paths will reach dead ends, while one of the paths will lead to the Lich.

In some room layouts in Bullet Hell some enemies are guaranteed to always spawn jammed, regardless of the players current curse level. The only other chamber that does this is the Abbey of the True Gun.

High Gunjurer.png High Gunjurer Fires large rings of bullets at the player. Occasionally disappears and reappears elsewhere in the room.
Lore Gunjurer.png Lore Gunjurer Summons one of 3 bullet familiars, each with distinct behaviors.

Warrior: The bullet will home in on the player until it vanishes.

Rogue: The bullet will home in on the player and then teleport behind them in an attempt to catch them off-guard.

Mage: The bullet follows the player closely and will shoot smaller bullets at them.

Gunsinger.png Gunsinger Buffs an enemy in the room, increasing their health and speed. They will cancel their spell and run away if the player is too close or they take too much damage.
Aged Gunsinger.png Aged Gunsinger Buffs all enemies in the room, increasing their health and speed. They will cancel their spell and run away if the player is too close or they take too much damage.
Ammomancer.png Ammomancer Attempts to summon Shelletons. They will cancel their summoning ritual and run away if the player is too close or they take too much damage.
Wizbang.png Wizbang Teleports around the room, occasionally creating a projection of itself near the player that explodes into bullets in all directions.
Mimic.png Mimic Rapidly fires bullets towards the player. Drops items and/or pickups upon death.
Bullat.png Bullat Launches itself at the player, dying in the process.
Shotgat.png Shotgat Launches two projectiles in a V shape at the player, dying in the process.
Grenat.png Grenat Launches an exploding projectile at the player, dying in the process.
Spirat.png Spirat Launches itself at the player, dying in the process. Predicts the player's movements, and can reposition itself several times before hitting walls.
Gunzookie.png Gunzookie Periodically spits up bubbles that, upon popping, fire a bullet that predicts the player's movements.
Gunzockie.png Gunzockie Periodically spits up four bubbles that, upon popping, fire a bullet that predicts the player's movements.
Great Bullet Shark.png Great Bullet Shark Charges towards the player, releasing many bullets to the sides of itself.
Tombstoner.png Tombstoner Walks towards the player, firing crosses of bullets.
Gun Cultist.png Gun Cultist Erratically moves around the room and shoots at the player. Has the ability to dodge roll.
Gun Nut.png Gun Nut Periodically strikes the ground with its sword, releasing a wide 90 degree arc of bullets towards the player. Can only aim in the eight compass directions.
Spectral Gun Nut.png Spectral Gun Nut Periodically fires a wide 90 degree arc of bullets towards the player, along with a larger bullet that explodes into bullets in all directions upon impact.
Flesh Cube.png Flesh Cube Slides towards the player if they line up with it horizontally or vertically, leaving behind a trail of fire. Releases bullets in all directions upon colliding with an obstacle. Cannot be killed until the room is completed.
Lead Maiden.png Lead Maiden Hops around, then opens up and fires three rings of triangular bullets that stick to walls, then fire towards the player. Cannot be damaged while closed. Explodes upon death.
Shambling Round.png Shambling Round Has three stages that it progresses through as it takes damage. In its first stage, it fires rings of bullets in all directions. In its second stage, it rapidly alternates between firing bullets out of its left and right sides. In its third stage, it sprays numerous bullets in all directions. Upon death, it leaves behind a cap that explodes after a short delay.
Shelleton.png Shelleton Slowly walks towards the player, frequently firing two wide bursts of bullets at the player. Occasionally fires a laser at the player. Collapses upon death, and will revive if not destroyed after a short period of time.
Agonizer.png Agonizer Periodically spews bullets in all directions. Explodes upon death.
Revolvenant.png Revolvenant Stretches its arm towards the player, attaching it to a wall. The arm will then release bullets perpendicular to itself. If the player is behind cover, the arms might also form a circle around them. This circle will follow the movement of the player and will shoot bullets at them.
Gunreaper.png Gunreaper Swings its scythe, sending a homing arc of bullets towards the player. Cannot be killed, and disappears upon completing the room.

Notes

  • The name Bullet Hell is a reference to the Bullet Hell video game subgenre, characterised by enemy attacks consisting of a large number of projectiles the player must avoid. Enter the Gungeon can be considered a Bullet Hell game.
  • The shadowy purple Bullet Kin apparitions that can be seen periodically rising out of pits in Bullet Hell are referred to as Wailing Bullet Kin in the assets of Enter the Gungeon.
