Shotgats split themselves in two, firing in a V shape. Their aim can be foiled by remaining still.

Shotgats are Bullat variant enemies that appear in Enter the Gungeon, Exit the Gungeon, and Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead.

Behaviour

Enter the Gungeon ETG

Shotgats behave much like Bullats, flying idly around the room, generally converging towards the player. When close enough, they will launch themselves towards the player in the form of two projectiles in a V formation, dying in the process. Their flight allows them to mill about over pits and perform their attacks from far, unreachable areas.

Because the bullets of a Shotgat move in a diverging V formation, the player cannot take damage if they are standing still and are not directly in front of the Shotgat. Despite this, the attack of a Shotgat can catch the player offguard as they move to dodge attacks from other enemies.

The attack behaviour of a Shotgat

Exit the Gungeon XTG

The attack pattern of a Shotgat in Exit the Gungeon.

Shotgats again behave similarly to Bullets, moving along the elevator shaft before launching themselves at the player, dying in the process. Unlike their appearance in Enter the Gungeon, Shotgats now burst into a whole shotgun blast of four bullets.

The flight pattern of Shotgats depends on the environment they are in. In combat rooms, they will fly slowly towards the player. In vertical elevator shafts, they will drift down the shaft from above, and in horizontal elevator shafts they will drift down the shaft from right to left.
When moving down an elevator shaft, Shotgats do not move in response to the position of the player, only reacting to the player when they perform their attack.

Shotgats usually spawn off screen, flying into the elevator shaft from above/the right.

Notes

  • Shotgats will only drop Money.png if the player kills them before they can attack.
  • Shotgat is a portmanteau of the words Shotgun and Bat.
  • ETG King Bullats have a chance to release Shotgats upon perishing.
  • ETG The bullet pattern of the Shotgat is very similar to that of the Shroomer.
  • XTG While Spent Bullats do not attack, their Diginomicon entry falsely describes the attack pattern of the Shotgat in Enter the Gungeon.
  • XTG Shotgats can be spawned by the Enemy Spawner in the Halls of Knowledge.
  • ETG If the challenge modifier Final Attack is active, Shotgats will release a ring of regular bullets when they launch themselves, in addition to their regular attack.
