The Abbey of the True Gun is the second secret chamber in The Gungeon. Like all secret chambers, it only appears in Enter the Gungeon. It is a medieval-style orthodox cathedral, adorned with paintings, candles, pews, and a myriad of artefacts set up by the Cult of the Gundead in worship of The Gun.
This floor is accessed through a hidden passage in an Altar Room in the Gungeon Proper. Placing the Old Crest item atop the altar reveals a hidden staircase leading down into the Abbey below. Since the Old Crest is acquired in the Oubliette, the Abbey of the True Gun can only be accessed if the player has first been to the Oubliette on the current run.
Entering the Abbey of the True Gun for the first time unlocks the Blood Brooch and the Reverence for the Dead achievement.
Layout
The Abbey of the True Gun follows a standard layout, with no major generation quirks. Unlike some later secret floors, the Abbey of the True Gun still contains a Shop.
Since the Abbey of the True Gun is entered via falling from above rather than arriving via elevator, there is no Elevator Maintenance Room in this chamber.
Points of Interest
Brother Albern Room
Main Page: Brother Albern
In addition to the regular Secret Room, the Abbey of the True Gun will always generate with a second secret room containing the NPC Brother Albern. This second secret room follows the same generation rules as the main secret room, and is more likely to be connected to chest rooms and the Shop.
Notes
- This secret room is the most reliable way to obtain the Lies item for the
Betrayer's Lies synergy.
- This room was added in Patch V1.0.10 specifically so that there was a reliable way to encounter Brother Albern.

A Bullet Kin with the slug removed, wearing a red cape.

Notes
- There is no Master Round for defeating the Old King without taking damage.
- This floor introduces Pews, strips of wood that act as indestructible obstacles which impede movement while allowing bullets to pass over them.
- The Abbey of the True Gun is referred to be various names in the games code and assets, including Cathedral, Cathedralgeon, and Bloodgeon.
- Statues of Kaliber can be seen as decoration in the boss room of the Old King.
- The music that plays in the Abbey was originally used in Keep of the Lead Lord during the alpha version of the game.
- The portrait of the Low Priest present on this floor was in Enter the Gungeon years before the release of Exit the Gungeon and the introduction of the Low Priest. This is because the Low Priest was originally a scrapped boss for Enter the Gungeon called the Vampire Mantis.
- The portrait of a Bullet Kin hanging from a rope by its leg may be a reference to the Hanged Man tarot card.
