Red Shotgun Kin
Red Shotgun Kin are Shotgun Kin variant enemies that appear in Enter the Gungeon, Exit the Gungeon, and Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead.
Behaviour
Enter the Gungeon
Red Shotgun Kin slowly walk towards the player, occasionally firing a tight spread of 5 bullets. Upon death, they have a chance to fire 6 bullets in all directions.
Red Shotgun Kin are also one of the few enemies capable of riding in minecarts, and will prioritise walking to available carts over following the player.
Exit the Gungeon
Red Shotgun Kin walk back and forth across the elevator platform, periodically pausing to fire a tight spread of 5 bullets. Unlike their appearance in Enter the Gungeon, Red Shotgun Kin do not fire bullets upon death.
Jetpack Variant
Variants of Red Shotgun Kin using Jetpacks will occasionally spawn, especially in later elevators and elevators with minimal or no floor space. These Shotgun Kin behave mostly the same to their grounded counterparts, slowly flying towards the player and occasionally shooting a shotgun spread of 5 bullets in their direction.

Unused and Cut Content
- Exit the Gungeon does not have Steam trading cards, however a collection of trading card portraits was created by XTG artist contributor Miroko, but never used. The fifteenth and final of these unused XTG trading cards depicted a Red Shotgun Kin.
- On 17/03/2016 (before the release of Enter the Gungeon) Dodge Roll posted the artwork of the Shotgun Kin trading card with the caption "More amazing Gungeon fanart from John Cipriani!".[3] The term fanart being used suggests that John Cipriani (The illustrator of the Enter the Gungeon steam trading cards) created the illustration outside the scope of his official work with Dodge Roll, potentially resulting in them going to him to complete the set.
- This early version of the Shotgun Kin trading card is, incorrectly, holding a revolver. This is rectified in the official card.
- A twitter post from Dodge Roll on 19/01/2015 shows a Red Shotgun Kin appearing to spontaneously pop without firing any bullets. The text of the tweet was simply "Pop pop". Whether this was part of a scrapped behaviour for the Red Shotgun Kin, or if it was a development showcase of the animation is unknown.[4]
Notes
- Red Shotgun Kin wield
Regular Shotguns.
- ETG If the challenge modifier
Final Attack is active, the on-death bullet burst of the Red Shotgun Kin will always trigger, but no extra bullets will be created. This makes Red Shotgun Kin considerably easier to dodge than other enemies with the Final Attack modifier.
- The subtitle "Red, Dead." may be a reference to the phrase people use in real life to determine whether their gun has the safety on.
- Despite the Ammonomicon entry stating that they are the sturdiest and most durable, they have lower health than all other varieties of Shotgun Kin.
- Red Shotgun Kin are currently the only Shotgun Kin type to appear as an enemy in Exit the Gungeon.
- CMV
Bug In the Chinese Mobile Version of Enter the Gungeon, the corpses of Red Shotgun Kin are tinted a deep red all over, even the parts of their body which are normally tinted yellow. This is presumably due to shader changes in the Chinese Mobile Version not taking the corpse into account.
In Other Media
- A Red Shotgun Kin (written in the game as Shotgunkin) is an unlockable character in the Devolver Digital mobile game Devolver Tumble Time. It has the ability Exploding bullet clears out toys!, which fires a red shotgun kin at the toy tumbler from off screen, popping all toys caught in its path and exploding in the center to pop even more.
- Like all unlockable characters in Devolver Tumble Time, while playing as Shotgunkin, 'toy' tokens shaped like the character can appear in the toy tumbler.
- The Friends of Jimbo 3 update for Balatro added special reskins of the diamond suited face cards based on Enter The Gungeon. The Queen of Diamonds Enter the Gungeon skin is a Red Shotgun Kin.
