Gun Nuts are powerful enemies that appear in Enter the Gungeon, Exit the Gungeon, and Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead.

Enter the Gungeon ETG

Gun Nuts slowly walk towards the player. They periodically strike the ground with their sword, releasing a wide 90 degree burst of bullets, along with four arrowhead shapes of extra bullets (ahead of the center of the arc, behind it, and at each end). They can only aim in the 8 compass directions.

The Gun Nut's attack emerges from the tip of its sword, which can pass from the Nut's body through small barrier walls and other obstructions before striking the ground. The Gun Nut will pause briefly before releasing an attack, and the attack is directed toward where the target was when the pause began. Thus, at close range it is possible to move out of the danger zone.

Exit the Gungeon XTG

Gun Nuts behave very similarly to their appearance in Enter the Gungeon, walking slowly towards the player across the elevator shaft before pausing to slam down their sword, sending a large semicirle of bullets to the left or right, in the direction of the player. In addition to this spread, they fire an arrowhead-shaped cluster of more bullets in the dead center of the spread, as well as two more arrowhead-shaped clusters above and below, angled slightly behind the Gun Nut, travelling backwards.

Unlike their appearance in Enter the Gungeon, Gun Nuts in Exit the Gungeon can only attack to the left or right.

Jetpack Variant

In addition, a jetpack wearing variant of the Gun Nut appears in some elevators in Exit the Gungeon, particularly those with limited or no floor space. These Gun Nuts behave identically to their grounded counterparts with the added power of flight, drifting slowly towards the player. Despite their omnidirectional movement while flying, these Gun Nuts can still only attack to the left and right.

Notes

  • In the real world, "Gun Nut" is a term used to describe individuals who are extremely enthusiastic about the ownership, use, and collecting of firearms and ammunition.
  • The name Gun Nut is also a reference to the Darknut from The Legend of Zelda series, a similarly heavily armored and oddly named enemy. The name Darknut was an error by the Japanese translation team; the original word intended was "Knight", not "Nut". The error became popular and has stuck ever since.
    • The Ammonomicon Quote "Dark Knight" is a reference to the intended name of the Darknut.
  • XTG The item Gunnut Butter is a reference to this enemy, as well as Peanut Butter.
