Weak, Link
The Chain Gunners are the remnant of a lost legion of Gun Nuts, famous for their unique weaponry.

Chain Gunners are powerful Gun Nut variant enemies that appear in Enter the Gungeon and Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead.

Enter the Gungeon ETG

Chain Gunners run towards the player slightly faster than a normal Gun Nut. They occasionally stop in place to pull out a large ball and chain made of bullets. They then swing this chain around them at roughly three revolutions per second for a couple of seconds while slowly moving towards the player before putting them away again and chasing the player as normal. The Chain Gunner's chain can swing through obstacles, including walls.

If a Chain Gunner is the only enemy left in the room, after swinging its chain for a few revolutions, the spiked mace at the end will detach and fly towards the player. This happens regardless of the apparent momentum of the chain, meaning it can suddenly reverse direction when flung.

Notes

  • ETG If any part of the Chain Gunners chain is destroyed, such as by Blasphemy, it will regenerate upon completing a rotation.
  • ETG Using a Blank will immediately cancel a Chain Gunners ongoing attack.
  • ETG If the challenge modifier Final Attack is active, the ring of bullets fired upon the death of a Chain Gunner will adopt the chain-link appearance of their regular projectiles, but will not behave any differently.
  • ETG The chain fling attack that Chain Gunners use if they are the only enemy left in the room will not trigger if the current save file is relatively new, as a grace period for new players.
  • The name and appearance of the Chain Gunner references the Ball and Chain Soldier from games such as A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds. The quote "Weak, Link" references the game's protagonist, Link.
    • This is also why they appear as the sole enemies in the throne room of the Bullet's past, which is another A Link to the Past reference.
    • The Ammonomicon quote "Weak, Link" is also a reference to a saying derived from the phrase "The weakest link in a chain", meaning that the weakest chain link is always the position where a chain will fail and snap.
