Next time... who is he?
Strange, sentient junk. It appears eager to join you on your quest.

Ser Junkan is a passive item and reoccurring character in both Enter the Gungeon and Exit the Gungeon.

In Enter the Gungeon, before unlocking him, he can appear after destroying chests and has a 20% chance to replace regular Junk. After unlocking him, he can be found as a regular item, and has a 1% chance of replacing regular Junk.

In Exit the Gungeon, he is unlocked by reaching a combo of 20, and can appear in both item and powerup forms.

Effects

Enter the Gungeon ETG

Junkan changes form depending on how many pieces of Junk (or Lies) the player is holding. Each form is progressively more powerful than the last, inscentivising the breaking of chests rather than opening them. In addition, holding Ser Junkan multiplies the chest destruction loot weight of Junk by 1.5, and the chest destruction loot weight of Gold Junk by 3, making them both more likely to appear over other payouts.

Losing Junk, such as dropping it, selling it, or giving it to Tailor to complete the Hollow shortcut will result in Junkan de-leveling down to the appropriate form.

Junk.png Image Rank Name Behaviour
0 Junkan peasant.gif Peasant Harmlessly pushes enemies around.
1 Junkan squire.gif Squire Gains a helmet and starts slowly attacking enemies by headbutting them, dealing 3 damage per hit.
2 Junkan hedgeknight.gif Hedge Knight Gains a shield and attacks more frequently by shield-bashing enemies, dealing 5 damage per hit.
3 Junkan knight.gif Knight Gains a sword and attacks more frequently by slicing enemies, dealing 7 damage per hit.
4 Junkan knightlieutenant.gif Knight Lieutenant Gains an adornment on his helmet and starts dealing 9 damage per sword slash.
5 Junkan knightcommander.gif Knight Commander Gains a cape and starts using a spin attack, which deals 10 damage per hit, hits twice, and can hit multiple enemies at once.
6 Junkan holyknight.gif Holy Knight Gains a new white colour scheme, a new sword and shield, and deals 13.33 damage per hit.
Occasionally, Junkan will run to the player and trigger a mini-blank effect.
Dying while junkan is at Holy Knight rank will cause him to sacrifice himself to save you, similarly to the Pig.
If Junkan sacrifices himself this way, he is removed from your inventory.
7+ Junkan angelicknight.gif Angelic Knight Gains a flaming pink sword and angelic winged armour, rapidly firing pink projectiles that deal 10 damage.
Can no longer blank or save the player from death, but gains the ability to fly.
Gold Junk.png Junkan mecha.gif Mechajunkan If the player has Gold Junk, all other forms are overriden by this form. In this form, Junkan pilots a golden mech-suit and swaps between three attacks;
  • A machine gun dealing 2.2 damage per shot.
  • A laser-blade melee attack that deals 20 damage.
  • A rapid homing-rocket barrage, where each rocket deals 8 damage, can hit multiple times, and breaks boss DPS cap.

Jammed enemies hit by Junkan's machine gun are un-jammed.

Exit the Gungeon XTG

Junkan follows the player, with the ability of flight, and changes form depending on the players combo level. Losing combo levels does not de-level junkan to a lower form, meaning that functionally he will remain at the highest combo form the player has managed to reach since picking him up.
Combo levels reached before picking up Ser Junkan will not be remembered.

Unlike his appearance in Enter the Gungeon, Ser Junkan will always attack using a ranged weapon, even at the lowest combo level.

Synergies ETG

  • Synergy.png Tea For Two - If the player also has Teapot, while reloading the Teapot, a small red aura will appear around Junkan. Every enemy in this aura will be ignited.

Unused or Altered Synergies

Notes

  • Ser Junkan is listed as 'Junk' in the Ammonomicon rather than Ser Junkan.
  • The blanks from Ser Junkan's Holy Knight form are affected by items that modify blanks, such as Gold Ammolet.
  • The bullets fired by Ser Junkan's Angelic Knight and Mechajunkan forms are affected by the player's bullet modifiers.
  • If the player defeats the Lich or ends the run by using The Gun That Can Kill The Past without The Bullet when Ser Junkan is at his final level, the normal win screen image will be overridden with an image of Ser Junkan, with the player in the background giving a thumbs up. This implies that Ser Junkan has become the true protagonist of the run, rather than the player.
    • This won't occur if you choose to kill your past during the run, as you lose all your items.
  • Bug.png Bug In co-op, if a player has Ser Junkan at Holy Knight, the player will not be revived if they are not the last player alive. Dying with Ser Junkan while another player is alive will just kill the player normally, and Ser Junkan will be lost.
  • Ser Junkan does not complete the Synergy.png Grouch synergy with the Trashcannon.
  • Ser Junkan is one of the few items that can be dropped by breaking any chest in Rainbow Mode, unless already unlocked.
  • Upgrading Ser Junkan to his Angelic Knight form unlocks the Battle Standard if it has not already been unlocked.
  • The projectiles Ser Junkan fires in his Mechajunkan form both seem to be recycled from existing guns. Its machine gun attack appears to use bullets from the Heck Blaster, while his rockets are similar in behaviour to those of the Yari Launcher.

Trivia

  • Ser Junkan's name may be a reference to Ser Duncan the Tall, the main character from the Tales of Dunk and Egg series set in the world of George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. This is further supported by his in-game shrine, which depicts a small egg beside him.
  • Additionally, the name may be a reference to Sir Juncan, a character within the Knights of the Nine expansion to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
  • Ser Junkan's sword from his Knight form and over might be a reference to the Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda series.
  • Ser Junkan appears in the card game The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls.
  • Four Ser Junkans can be seen among the pile of items that makes up the Resourceful Rats throne in the Resourceful Rat's Lair, where they appear to be dead.

In Other Media

  • Ser Junkan appears as a 'Warp Zone' card in The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls, where he can be levelled up by discarding loot cards from your hand, resulting in increasing benefits the higher Junkans level is.
