Health is a Stat in Enter the Gungeon which controls the number of heart containers the player has. It is measured in increments of 0.5, with each 0.5 being half of a heart container. The Health stat does not reflect, and has no bearing on, Armor.

The default Health for all Gungeoneers other than The Robot is 3. The Robot has a default health of 0, and its health cannot be altered in any way.

For all characters other than the Robot, it is impossible for Health to be decreased below 1.

As The Robot, picking up any passive item that increases health will give 5-10 Money.png per heart container it was supposed to grant.

Other

  • Using the Fallen Angel, Blood, or Companion Shrines decreases Health by 1.
  • Multiple different outcomes of the Chance Shrine interact with health:
    • Bolstered: Increases health by 1–2.
    • Enfeebled: Decreases health by 1.
    • The Chance Shrine has a 0.1% chance to explode, and reduce the player to 1 health (among other effects).

Unused and Cut Content

  • In alpha versions of Enter the Gungeon, reviving a dead player in co-op mode would reduce their health by one.[1]

Notes

  • Despite the fact that it is possible for the player to have half a heart container, there is no way in vanilla Enter the Gungeon to achieve this effect. Because of this, half-heart containers do not have their own sprites, and instead appear to be a half-filled normal heart container. The remainder of the heart container cannot be filled, however.
  • If the player has Loot Bag.png Loot Bag, the amount of Money.png given by picking up health increasing items as The Robot is doubled.

References

  1. "Co-op mode is actually mostly identical to solo. The obvious difference being that the first player is accompanied by a Gun Cultist, which is controlled by the second player. We’ve tried pretty hard to make the second player a contributing member of the team, without totally unbalancing the game. You both can carry your own items and guns, though you do share money. If one player dies, the other will continue playing until they die or find a chest. The dead player will pop out of the chest, with their starting weapons and one less maximum health. There will be some co-op specific items, and a couple of specific scenarios that can only be done with two people, but for the most part the full Gungeon experience is available to play with two people, or one." - Dave Crooks in An Interview with Dave Crooks - Part 1 (N4G)
