The Gungeon Proper is the second chamber of The Gungeon, appearing in all Gungeonverse games. Since Exit the Gungeon traverses the Gungeons floors in reverse, in that game the Gungeon Proper serves as the fourth chamber.
It is a grim medieval prison complex and a true dungeon, littered with iron bars and water leaks trickling through poorly maintained brickwork. Several traps such as spikes and flame traps first appear in this chamber.
Layout ETG
The Gungeon Proper follows a standard layout, with a Shop and Elevator Maintenance Room. The floor is entered via a standard elevator.
If it has not already been delivered to the Blacksmith, the Shop on this floor will present the Prime Primer for sale in a glass case, with a cost of 110 . If the player has both brought the Prime Primer to the Blacksmith and Killed the High Dragun, the Gnawed Key will be sold for 115 shells in its place instead.
Because these items are sold in additional glass cases, they do not interfere with Bellos regular stock.
Points of Interest
Altar Room ETG
The Gungeon Proper will always contain a long vertical room, lined with six sarcophagi depicting ancient bullet kin.
Near the top of the room, past a seventh central sacophagus, stands an altar which can be interacted with. Interacting with this altar while holding the Old Crest will give the player the option to place the crest atop the altar, causing the seventh sarcophagus to slide aside, revealing a staircase downwards. Walking down these stairs takes the player to the Abbey of the True Gun.
If the player has the Old Crest, and the Abbey of the True Gun has been visited before, the Save Button NPC will also appear in this room.

Gunsinger | Buffs an enemy in the room, increasing their health and speed. They will cancel their spell and run away if the player is too close or they take too much damage. | |

Gun Nut | Periodically strikes the ground with its sword, releasing a wide 90 degree arc of bullets towards the player. Can only aim in the eight compass directions. | |

Notes
- The Tinker can repair a shortcut elevator to this chamber by speaking to him in this floors Elevator Maintenance Room, and giving him the following resources:

- After completing the floor's shortcut, the Busted Television can be found within the floor's Elevator room.
- A secret room containing the High Dragunfire can rarely be found in the Gungeon Proper. The cracked wall to this secret room can only be located on the left or right side of a room, not the top or bottom.
